Zekes Peak

Zekes Peak is not for the faint of heart, for myself it took me 6 attempts to successfully climb this mountain. This is probably one of the hardest peaks below 5,000 feet in Snohomish Country. It's not only a full day trip but also has many obstacles, much elevation gain, and bush whacking. Like many mountains, the season plays a big roll in the conditions and difficulty of the mountain. This peak was named after the owner of the Zeke's Burger place along highway 2, ad was a pion

Mount Hood

Mount Hood, otherwise known as Wy'East is the largest peak in Oregon. This active glaciated volcano located 50 miles east of Oregon is one of the most climb glaciated volcanoes in the world. The last eruption of Mount Hood was a minor eruption back in 1877. The volcano though still shows it's active by its many fumoroles on the south side of the volcano. Often these fumoroles, or sulfer steam produce steam that has a strong odor similiar to a rotten egg smell. The smell is not very dange

Sahale Mountain

Located in the Heart of the North Cascades and is located in between the Cascade Valley and the Stehiken Valley. According to Google Earth, the Summit is 8701 feet above sea level. Sahale Peak is located in the Boston Basin area in the North Cascades. Boston Basin is very similar to the alps in terms of weather and quality of alpine climbing. The lower elevation, with peaks in the eight to nine thousand foot range does translate to weather conditions and a shorter climbing season. Sahale Peak

At 7,201 feet and with 2,800 feet of prominence, Mt. Pugh is definitely a majestic peak. A 5-3 scramble, Mt. Pugh is a challenging and strenuous peak. There is a bit of exposure in a few places, especially on Knife Ridge, a very thin ridge with a massive drop on both sides that must be traversed to access the peak. Near the top of Mt. Pugh, there are some Class 3 sections that will definitely test your abilities. Mt. Pugh is located in Darrington, and is part of the North Cascades. The beginn

Longs and Ingalls Pass

Intro: This makes a great hike for late spring, or the fall, but is'nt as much of a summer hike due to it being dry.... or perhaps thats opinion. Well anyways, the hike it self is good. And when snow makes a nice glasade down.

Distance: 3 miles each way to Ingalls Pass, and if Longs Pass is added to the trip, its 7 miles round trip.... so it says.... the .5 miles feel like more!

Elevations: Ingalls Pass is 6,500 feet while Longs Pass is 6,250 feet.

Difficulty: Moderate

Mailbox Peak is a great hike, but has a steep trail. It is said to be about 3 miles one way to the summit, and has an elevation gain of about 4,000 feet. This one is accessable more of the year than some of the other peaks in the area.

Getting there from Seattle: From Seattle, drive onto I-90 which goes East, until you get to North Bend. From here there is a road called 468th Avenue Southeast which you exit onto. This road is short, and takes you to South East 140th Street which you take a righ

Hannegan Peak

Hannegan Peak is a hike well worth the trip. It is about 200 miles from Seattle and is about 10 miles round trip to the summit. The summit is about 6200ft. high and you start out at 2900ft. which makes your elevation gain about 3400 feet. The hike is moderate and is beautiful on a nice day, When I went there on a smoggy day the view was still very good. If you are out of shape and don't quite feel like going to the summit then you can go to the pass which is 3.5 miles one way. The view at the su

Monte CristoOverview

Monte Cristo was once a town in the late 1890's which was a place for gold mines and in the early 1900's did not have enough money and became a ghost town. Many visit this place, unfortunatly the road there was washed out years ago, so now it has become a hike, or for us bikers a bike trail. The place still had a few houses and mines in the area, although much of the original town was either burnt down, destroyed, or taken apart when settlers left. As for the conditions of the road, fo

Camp Muir

Camp Muir is a very rewarding hike that takes you up to 10082 feet above sea level on Mount Rainier which is the highest mountain in the entire Pacific North West! The hike it self is around 10 miles, and is a day hike. Unfortunatly I believe theres no camping along the way until you get to Camp Muir, but I do not know the rules of them. Camp Muir is best to go to Late May through August, although I went in late July, and now wish we could have done in earlier season so that there would be mor

Vesper Peak

Vesper Peak is east of Granite Falls and is near Silverton. The road getting there is friendly and a northwest forest pass is required. The trail starts out gentle and easy through the woods, a few creeks and a river (careful crossing it). There is an orange tag that represents the trail to cross the river. The first time I went there I took a wrong way and went on a primitive trail to Lewis Peak. After the river the trail starts to switch back a few times to a strait away, then you get to a bou

Mount Pilchuck

This hike is 3 miles to the Summit and is a easy day hike with wonderful views of the Mountain Loop Highway. The parking lot starts out at about an elevation of 3,200 feet and the summit is 5,324 feet. Recommended May-October, due to heavy amounts of snow, it can be done in winter but can in ways be more treterous and much more difficult and yu might have to walk to the parking lot which is the reason I think it is best done in spring. From the summit you can see Three Fingers, Glacier Peak, Whi

The hike takes you to the top of a 5,723 foot summit with a 360 degree view. The hike is about 4.6 miles one way, making it 9.2 miles round trip. The hike is strenuous and is not recommended to beginner hikers in November-May because of the high amount of snow. From the summit you can see Glacier Peak, Vesper Peak, Del Campo Peak, Mt. Pilchuck, Three Fingers, White Horse, Sloan Peak, and Mt. Pugh. Getting There: If you live in Seattle go north taking I-5 to Everett, take the junction to hig

Mount Persis

Mount Persis located right off of Highway 2 is well known for being Mount Index's little sister. From Highway Mount Persis looks almost impossible to climb. But in reality there is actually footpath/trail that head up to the summit from the west head. This footpath located up on dirt road 62 goes up 2700 feet of Mount Persis 5464 feet rather quickly. From the car this trail let's the hiker know that it is uphill. THat being said the higher you go the easier the trail becomes. There are two small

South Sister

Located 30 miles west of Bend, Oregons third highest summit is another very popular destination for experenced. With the main bootpath usually free of snow by August, receives a lot of traffic in the summer months. The summit is a special masterpiece. It is presently a dormant volcano which erupted last at 1200 AD. That being said there have been a number of tremers around the volcanos which scientist have been monitoring for activity. Like many of the other volcanoes in the are South Sister is
